New state Symbols / Rubik’s Cube June 2008

August 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

New state Symbols / Rubik’s Cube 2008
Conceptualized and realized during international public art project in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The object size is 90 centimeters with a total of 26 different blocks, giving the effect of one big rubik’s cube.

The cube was covered by 14 flags. The 14 flags stand for politically powerfull countries, small autonomies and politically not recognized countries. The flags were chosen because they represent the complex geopolitical context of Caucasus and their neighbours.
Originally all sides were covered with one flag. Because of interaction with the public the context of the work
changed, for example some part of the Russian flag went into the Chechnian flag side, a part of the Turkish flag appeared in the Armenian side of rubik’s cube, et cetera.

Wallpaintings, Caucasus Biennale, Tbilisi, Georgia 2007

The Project started with the idea of wanting to enable the viewer to get a new perpective of the space surrounding them, adding transparancy, breaking through walls and thus offering a changed focus. The Images offers double-vision, using a graphical image of reality.
